2010 Skyride route unveiled
September 2, 2010
An extended route and a good weather forecast promise to make this Sunday’s London Skyride the biggest and best yet. The mass cycle ride is free to enter and follows 13 similar events that have taken place around the country over the last month.
Last year an estimated 65,000 cyclists took part in the ride and this year’s traffic-free route has been extended to take in the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral, Parliament Square and the Houses of Parliament.
Sky Riders can join the route at any point and complete as many circuits as they like.
A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “This year’s route is 15km long, but the carnival atmosphere means it is anything but a race – cyclists are free ride as much or as little of the course as they choose.”
Cyclists can register for the event at or simply turn up and ride on Sunday.
The route will be closed to motorised traffic from 9.30am.
Cycle insurance
Cycle insurance from the ETA includes new-for-old replacement, third party insurance (in the case of an accident you may need to seek compensation or even deal with a claim by someone else), personal accident cover and if you breakdown, they will even come out and recover you and your bike.
