Be very careful about trying anything like this
My own experience after catching two known criminals in my garden, is that the job of the police is to protect criminals against householders who are nasty to them. apparently the criminals suffered mental stress because of my actions. The police were quite willing to take me in to custody after a complaint from the criminals, where I was interviewed under caution and the interview taped with a duty solicitor. When both me and my wife stated the criminals had threatened us the police said it was a civil matter.
Good advice from the duty solicitor was whatever you did deny everything you’re not on oath. You know what these two were there for, the police know as well. If you hadn’t caught them they would have burgled you.
There is a silver lining, these two were badly beaten up by some parents for selling drugs to teenagers outside a youth club, they moved out of the area soon afterwards
Needless to say no action was brought by the police against the criminals.
