Cargo bike subsidies: What are we waiting for?

electric bicycle grants

As Paris prepares to host the Olympics next month, the city is working hard to boost everyday cycling.

For example, to help ease congested streets, lower air pollution and reduce road danger, the French capital offers businesses a cargo bike subsidy. The city pays up to €1,200 towards a cargo bike, including e-bike models.

Here in the UK, the cargo bike grants pale in comparison with nationwide incentives to buy electric cars and vans.

Despite government failure to promote them adequately, it’s an exciting time for cargo e-bikes and trikes. As businesses begin to recognise the benefits of making local deliveries by cargo bike – not to mention families using them for the school run – manufacturers are responding with a range of innovative designs.

Cargo bike insurance

Cargo bikes offer a clean, quiet and cost effective way to carry stuff that’s too bulky for a conventional bicycle. However, their size and weight can make a breakdown troublesome. Even the shortest journey comes to an abrupt halt in the event of a flat tyre, broken chain or flat battery when carrying kids or cargo.

Insure your cargo bike with us and top of a list of great benefits, you’ll get the peace of mind offered by our Cycle Rescue service – the UK’s first breakdown cover policy for bicycles, cargo bikes, recumbents and tandems.

If you suffer a breakdown  (including punctures or flat battery) while out cycling, or are unable to continue due to an injury, our 24-hour Cycle Rescue team arranges transport for you and your cycle to a safe location.

Every insurance policy includes the following as standard:

  • Theft, accidental damage & vandalism
  • Cycle Rescue
  • No devaluation of your bike over time
  • £2m third party PLUS £20,000 personal accident cover
  • Shed and garage storage
  • Low standard excess of 5% (£50 minimum)
  • You and your family on your bike
