Attempted theft highlights need for bike cover

A shop owner in Cambridge has told of her fury after being targeted by bike thieves.

Claire Peters was shocked when she discovered the windows in her Blazing Saddles shop shattered.

"It looks as if they were after the bike which did have a £1,500 price tag on it. They must have seen the bike in the window and threw a brick through it,"

Ms Peters added: "It’s just so frustrating. We moved about a year ago from the shop we had just up the road but we’ve never had any trouble. A resident told me they had thrown bricks through car windscreens near the shop too.”

The government is committed to reducing national carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050 and transport currently accounts for a quarter of Britain’s total CO₂ output.

However, bike theft could be deterring people from reducing their transport carbon footprint by getting on their bikes.
