Bicycle seat post pumps are not a new idea, so why are most bikes sold without them?

The makers of AIRSUPPLY hope to change that for good with a design they've been developing for the past seven years.

AIRSUPPLY is designed to be compatible with any bicycle, saddle and valve. The pump comes with various adaptors to fit most down tube sizes and does not need to be removed from the bike before it's used.

Very early in automotive history, car makers realised that the secret to selling lay in including creature comforts. You would be disappointed to buy car without cup holders, let alone mudguards or headlights and yet these features are in the main absent from bicycles. Sure, many cyclists want to keep weight to a minimum, but you have to ask yourself why bikes sold for the urban commute or shopping run in this country so rarely come with a side stand, pannier rack, mudguards and lights.

In 2008, fifteen-year-old Alexander Haager imagined a bicycle with an integrated air pump. Despite having no financial backing or technical training he set about developing AIRSUPPLY.

In 2013, after fifteen successive versions of the product and nearly 300 prototypes, AIRSUPPLYwas tested and approved under the European Union’s EN-M standard, the world’s most stringent standard for bicycle parts.

The team behind AIRSUPPLY hope to see their product incorporated into most bicycles at the point of manufacture. For now, the pump can be bought via remobic.
