Bike thefts spark safety concerns

Police are urging cyclists to take extra care with their bikes in Somerset.

The warning comes following a series of bike thefts in the region.

According to officials, in the past week alone, a number of bike thefts have been reported where thieves have broken into people’s homes.

Commenting on the problem, Sgt Adrian Fallows, from Chipping Sodbury police station, warned people to ensure they lock their garden sheds and where possible keep their bikes inside: “If they are particularly expensive bikes they should be made secure within a garage or shed. Those who are concerned over the security of their bike may also want to consider taking out bike insurance.”

Avon and Somerset police reassured that simple safety measures such bike locks and keeping bikes out of public view can reduce the risk of theft.
