Car club merger gets green light

November 19, 2010

A £32m deal that will see car club giant ZipCar buy its British rival, StreetCar, has been given the go-ahead by the Competition Commission.

Zipcar has 360,000 members across America and Europe hopes to expand the British arm of its business. With diesel prices in Britain returning to the record levels reached earlier this year, it is estimated that the market for pay-as-you go vehicles could grow to 800,000 members within ten years.

Today’s car clubs use the latest technology to make renting a car for as little as one hour as painless as possible; members are able to book a car online and unlock the chosen vehicle with their iPhone.
