Car CO2 emissions data proves hard to find

January 28, 2010

Prospective cars buyers are struggling to find out how much CO2 new cars produce when they browse manufacturer websites, according to a report published today.

The research found that only half of 363 attempts to find the official CO2 value for a particular car were successful.

Manufacturers of lower carbon cars appeared to be no more forthcoming with the information than those selling heavier and thirstier vehicles; Smart, Nissan and Alfa Romeo were found to be the ‘bottom three’ in terms of accessible carbon emissions data.

The Energy Saving Trust, Friends of the Earth Europe and We Are Futureproof are calling for information about CO2 emissions to be made easier to find on manufacturer websites.

How much does your car cost you?

Few people know exactly how much their car costs to run. The focus tends to be on petrol and diesel prices, but maintenance and breakdown are just two of the many other costs to take into account. Use this car cost calculator to work out how much you pay.
