Cold weather muffs for your bicycle handlebars
January 27, 2012
Cycling in the winter is a joy, but extremities need to be kept warm if it’s not to become a chore. Cyclists prepared to compromise their aerodynamic profile, and perhaps a little style, in return for toasty digits can plump for a BarBra; a waterproof, handlebar-mounted guard to shield the rider’s hands from cold air and rain.
A spokesperson for cycle insurers ETA said: “Riding a bike wearing thick gloves is the equivalent of driving in heavy boots – handlebar muffs might not win points for style but in theory they allow you to wear thinner gloves and retain good feedback from the brake levers.”
The Barbra costs less than £36 (including postage from Canada) from the Barbra website.
Heated gloves
If you can’t see yourself using a BarBra, battery-powered heated gloves might seem a sensible option. although the heavy D sized batteries are likely be to be too cumbersome for most cyslists.
Cycle insurance from 33p per week
Cycle insurance from the ETA includes new-for-old, £1m third party insurance, personal accident cover and if you suffer a mechanical breakdown, we will recover you and your bike.
