Convenience 'key to encouraging tourist use of public transport'
June 12, 2009
Efforts to encourage more tourists to use public transport on visits to Cardiff must focus on convenience, Delme Bowen claims.
The executive member for transport on Cardiff Council tells Wales Online that people must be persuaded to use more environmentally friendly infrastructure measures if these are to be put in place.
He says there are a number of initiatives that will be rolled out in the city, including providing cheaper parking as part of Park and Ride schemes and increasing the rate for those leaving their vehicle inside the city.
"We need to persuade people it could be more convenient by bus. We need to provide them with sufficient detailed information to get around and make it cheaper," he asserts.
Mr Bowen tells the news provider that these proposals will take into account residents’ needs in order to create a scheme that will combine these with those of visitors.
In other news, London Councils recently called on city mayor Boris Johnson to take advice from local authorities in the rolling out of new cycling schemes in the capital.
