Cyclists can now fit a fridge, DVD player or toaster to their bicycle

January 26, 2010

A device has gone on sale that allows almost any small electrical appliance to be powered by a bicycle.

The Cycle Charger clips onto any bicycle and will power or charge any device that can plug into the cigarette lighter outlet found in a car.

The charger allows all manner of after-market devices to be fitted to a bicycle including an iPod and speakers, a mobile phone charger or a sat nav.

In-car accessories now fit bicycles

There is a huge range of accessories available for use in cars, and all those that are designed to be plugged into the cigarette lighter socket can be powered by the cycle charger.

The charger makes possible rather more outlandish options; in-car miniature-sized fridges, portable DVD players and waffle makers are just a few of the devices you can now fit to a bicycle should you so wish.

The charger works in the same way as a traditional dynamo, but features a voltage regulator to ensure that the device being powered cannot be damaged by changes in the speed of the bicycle.

You’ve pimped your bike, now insure it

A good cycle insurance policy will allow you to cover a bike you have modified or built yourself. The ETA also includes third party cover, accidental cover (including at race events), personal accident cover, a breakdown service for cyclists and much more.
