DeLorean bicycle is a blast from the past

The DeLorean brand – best known for the modified car used in the 1984 film Back to the Future – has remerged from the past as a stainless steel-framed bicycle.

Of course, bicycles bearing the marque of a luxury brand are nothing new; Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Mercedes are among the many car makers that have put their badges on bicycles. Even Hummer, the American manufacturer of military vehicles and SUVs puts its name on a useful-looking folding full-size mountain bike.

The choice of stainless steel for the DeLorean Anyday bicycle is not only a reference to the material used for the bodywork of the famous DeLorean car – its makers claim the frame is stiff and durable.

To help you remain visible at night, the wheels are coated with a new luminescent coating that becomes reflective when lights are shone on it.

Cycle Insurance

DeLorean cars to go electric

The distinctive DeLorean DMC-12 is to be re-launched as an electric car. The Electric DeLorean (DMC EV) will be available to buy in 2013, but engineer Dave Delman couldn’t wait that long so he spent £8,000 building his own.

The film featured a DeLorean time machine fitted with a ‘flux capacitor’ fuelled by plutonium that allowed it to travel through time when it reached a speed of 88mph. Dr Delman’s electric DeLorean is powered by thirteen lead-acid batteries that give a range of up to 30 miles.
