What becomes of the decorative plastic wheel trims that fall off car wheels and end up lying in the gutter? The answer for a lucky few is a new life as hubcap creatures.

Hub caps are almost a thing of the past because most cars now sport lightweight alloy wheels, but for those that remain, and are lost, another life awaits at the hands of artist Ptolemy Elrington.

Describing his work, Ptolemy explains: “Hubcap creatures are made entirely from re-cycled materials. All the hubcaps are found, usually on the side of the road, and therefore bear the scars of their previous lives in the form of scratches and abrasions. I believe these marks add texture and history to the creatures they decorate.”
