Importance of road safety for cyclists is highlighted
November 30, 2009
Ariana Noon, from Scarborough, has been rewarded for her efforts to promote road safety among cyclists by being given a brand new bicycle.
She designed a poster encouraging those with bike cover to stay safe while cycling on the town’s roads, with headteacher Phil Snowden saying that he was proud of her efforts.
"The project involved the pupils in key stage two and was run by our year six road safety officers," he explained to the newspaper.
"Her poster was really good. It made the point very clearly and we are all proud of Ariana."
Ms Noon was presented with her new bicycle during a school assembly.
Basic road safety tips for cyclists include ensuring that lights and reflectors work and stay clean, checking that tyres remain inflated and in good condition and that gears are working correctly.
