Is the Tata Nano EV an electric car Ford Model T?

An electric version of the Tata Nano, the world’s cheapest car, is on display at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Tata Nano EV uses super-polymer lithium-ion batteries to give a range of about 80 miles.

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “No one knows for certain how much the Nano EV will cost, but it is expected that Tata will once again undercut its rivals on price. At the right price, the car could be the electric car version of the Ford Model T – the first electric vehicle to have mass-market appeal.”

Future electric Ford Model T?

Many millions of the people in India who currently travel by bicycle and scooter welcomed the launch in January 2008 of a car which promised to cost 100,000 Rupees (£1,277).

The TaTa Nano is a small-engined and extremely lightweight four-seater car which returns an average 50 miles per gallon; the car promises to be India’s equivalent of the Ford Model T – a mass-produced, lightweight and affordable car intended to make motoring accessible to as many people as possible.
