The Kisha umbrella predicts rain
February 12, 2015
The Kisha umbrella is a high-tech take on the traditional brolly that predicts rain and let's you know if you are about to leave it on the bus.
The umbrella is standard issue for any trip – a design so beautiful in its simplicity that has remained largely unchanged for thousands of years. But with over 30m umbrellas sold each year in America alone, it has become another symbol of our throwaway society. On an average day, the lost property office at Transport for London stores 12,000 waiting to be reunited with their owners. At £49 the Kisha may cost ten times the amount of a basic brolly, but it an umbrella is designed to last. A corrosion-proof design with strong stitching and a robust mechanism means it will brave blustery showers and smart technology means it’s almost impossible to leave it on the bus.
The Kisha works in conjunction with an ap that can predict rain and reminds you if you are about to leave your umbrella on the bus or train.
The Kisha is not the world’s first high-tech umbrella. The security team protecting French president Nicolas Sarkozy used a £10,000 kevlar-coated ‘Para Pactum’ umbrella to defend him from attackers.
