New road safety maps released
August 5, 2009
A new series of maps have been produced in a bid to cut the number of motorcyclists killed and injured on the roads in Perthshire.
The documents list road safety hazards as well as information such as the location of speed cameras and service stations.
Grant Edwards, of Tayside Police’s roads policing unit, commented that many crashes in the region could be avoided if motorists were travelling with a bit more care or less speed: “The maps provide an opportunity for us to offer advice and ask motorcyclists to play their part in making our roads safer by riding with due consideration for other road users.”
Mr Edwards went on to state that bikers can now also be "prepared for the unexpected" and should take heed of the informed advice given.
A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “Motorcyclists represent a disproportianate number of the motorists killed on rural roads, with speed playing a major part in most of the deaths. The introduction of speed cameras need to be matched by continuing education.”
Breakdown cover for motorcycles
The ETA is an ethical organisation providing cars drivers and motorcyclists and pedal cyclists with carbon-neutral breakdown cover and insurance products.
