Single-trip European car breakdown now less than £2 per day
September 5, 2012
As the dreary economic climate continues to prompt holiday makers to drive to the continent rather than venture further afield, motorists are being advised to familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations of driving in Europe and warned against skimping on car breakdown cover for their trip.
A spokesperson for the ETA said: “If there is one thing likely to be more irksome than breaking down in your car at home, it’s suffering the same misfortune abroad. At the very least it’s an unwelcome distraction from your trip, but if you are without an adequate level of breakdown cover, the job of finding a local garage can add unecessary stress to your holiday.”

Mobile phones with internet access have made it easier in theory to search for local recovery services and relay the exact location of the vehicle using the GPS function, but in practice having to make phone calls in a foreign language – possibly in the middle of the night – is something that most drivers would sooner avoid.
The majority of motorists making a trip to Europe will know it is possible to upgrade annual breakdown cover to cover to Europe, but fewer may realise that a number of providers on the market now offer cover for as little one day.
Single-trip European breakdown cover; from less than £2 per day
This type of single-trip breakdown cover may suit those who travel abroad only occasionally and motorists who make do with a basic level of breakdown service at home, but prefer the peace of mind offered by a more comprehensive level of cover when abroad. For example, a single-trip breakdown policy from the ETA can cover between one and 31 days and costs from less than £2 per day.
The cost of the cover for a single day is £10.50 with a sliding scale of prices up to £55 for 31 days.
