Pedal-powered Ferrari is slow, but green

May 10, 2012

It’s a supercar that has blood red Ferrari-style bodywork, a superlight chassis and gull-wing doors, but will turns heads for an entirely different reason; the pedal-powered Fahrradi is zero emissions.

The Fahrradi Farfalla FFX is the work of Austrian artist Hannes Langeder. The remarkable car will be on display at the Lentos Museum of Art in Linz, Austria, until 4 July 2012

Langeder has plans to unveil a pedal-powered Bugatti Veyron later this year.
Luckily the team of designers behind the Fahraddi also offer the greenest Porsche to date; a zero-emissions version of the GT3 RS built around a pedal car.

It’s the knotty problem wrestled with by cyclists everywhere: You like the idea of owning a £140,000 Porsche GT3 RS, but worry it would mean less time on the bike.

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “Everyone should have a pedal-powered supercar in their garage.”

“Sportscar builders such as Porsche and Ferrari make much of their plans to introduce hybrid technology, but these have as much to do with tough CO2 emissions targets and the threat of inner city bans on highly-polluting vehicles as they do a desire to produce environmentally-friendly cars.”
