Police crack down on bike theft

Surrey Police are stepping up their efforts in tackling bike theft.

A series of cycle surgeries are being held by officers across Runnymede following a surge in bike theft.

"These cycle security surgeries offer members of the public an excellent opportunity to learn how to not become a victim of bicycle theft … I would advise anyone who is planning on purchasing a bike in the run up to Christmas to come along," said Runnymede borough inspector Roger Nield.

"Surrey Police are continuing to proactively work on tackling this type of crime, and using these simple methods can assist us in catching the offenders and reuniting bicycles with their owners."

Police will be on hand at the surgeries to teach cyclists how they can protect their bikes.

In addition, officers will be marking bicycles with the post codes of their owners so that if the bike is stolen and recovered, it can be reunited with its owner.
