Retrofit bicycle brakes without levers

The current fashion for fixed gear bicycles may be partly explained by their light weight and low maintenance, but there is also something undeniably pleasing about their simplicity of form.

The simpler the bike, the greater one’s attention on those components that remain – a fact that has been addressed by Cykelmargeren, a Danish company that specialises in hand-built bicycles.

The unusual and elegant–looking Cykelmageren brake system does away entirely with a conventional brake lever. The brake cable is instead run through a flexible sheath which, when pulled towards the towards the handlebar, applies the brake.

The brake system is to be sold as a complete kit including two grip end pieces, cable, brake choice of grips. The price is to be confirmed.

Cycle insurance for hand-built bikes

Cycle insurance from the ETA covers hand-built bicycles – all that is required is a valuation from a bike shop. The insurance includes new-for-old cover for theft and accidental damage (race events included), third party insurance, personal accident cover and if you breakdown, they will even come out and recover you and your bike.
