Sbyke: a bicycle and skateboard ‘cut and shut’
February 16, 2011
A new type of scooter made from the front end of a BMX and the back end of a skateboard may prove a hit with kids and commuters alike.
Unlike many other novelty bicycle/scooter hybrids, the Sbyke has been designed to cater to a specific market. Bart Wilson has a background in motor racing and built the Sbyke for drivers to get around pit areas.
A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “The distributors of the Sbyke, which will be available to buy later this year, will be hoping for the success enjoyed by the Micro Scooter.”
In 2000 a craze for the lightweight and folding design swept America, Japan and Britain with many millions sold to date.

The fact that the bicycle is a design of such wonderful simplicity that it has remained largely unchanged over the last 100 years, does little to deter inventors from coming up with alternatives. The following three designs have not yet moved beyond the prototype stage.
