Sun's out - Quick, sling up a hammock

August 5, 2021

hammock

If you have a few metres of space and two minutes of sun this summer, you can sling a hammock. And in these days of social distancing and self isolation, what better way of whiling away your leisure time? Snooze, read a book or daydream about better days to come.

The word hammock originates from the Taino people of Central America who used the word hamaca to describe nets made from rope fibres. Hammocks themselves can be traced back 1,000 years to the Mayan civilization. The simple suspended beds provided a clever way to avoid dangerous creatures.

We have three modern lightweight hammocks to give away. This one-person hammock from Quechua measures a roomy 300 x 152cm and is fabricated from durable ripstop fabric. Sling it up inside, between trees in your garden or take it further afield on a future trip in place of a tent.

To be in with a chance of winning a hammock, simply leave us a comment below and let us know where you'd sling it up.

Ethical insurance

Not only are we Britain's most ethical provider, we have a charity that campaigns for sustainable transport. Sometimes that means protesting until a school gets the zebra crossing they've been refused, or running 60 roadshows to encourage people out of their cars, or fixing bicycles for free. Supporting this work is easy - you can simply take out insurance with us. We provide a range of insurance products - all while putting concern for the environment at the heart of what we do.
