Tesla S electric saloon car revealed

The eagerly-awaited Tesla Model S saloon concept car has been unveiled to journalists in California.

Tesla claims the $57,000 car will have a 300-mile range, 45-minute fast charge capability and a 0-to-60 time of 5.5 seconds.

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “The car’s specification, performance and price are impressive – it remains to be seen whether they survive the transition between concept design and production model.”

The car is expected to go on sale in 2011.

Tesla Roadster performance

Tesla has already delivered the first batch of its £75,000 Roadster model, the world’s first high-performance production electric sports car.

Compared to the very few electric cars already on the market, the two-seater, all-electric Tesla is radically different in almost every respect.

The electric cars currently on sale in Britain have relatively modest performance and range. The G-Wizz model, which sells best in urban areas, has a range of 40 miles.
