When IKEA met Airfix – the flat pack bicycle

Winner of the international bicycle design competition in Taipei the 'sawyer' by sculptor and designer Jurgen Kuipers is a bicycle IKEA might sell – a flat pack low-rider made from sheets of plywood.

A surreal twist to what is otherwise a fairly conventional-looking beach cruiser is its availability as a 1:1 scale non-functional model kit, which is presented like an over-sized Airfix kit. Every component other than the wooden frame is glued into place to form a full-sized self-assembly bike, which looks good but cannot be ridden.
