Wills and Kate on a Boris Bicycle built for two

If Prince William decides to consign his Ducati superbike to the garage following his marriage to Kate Middleton he now has a more sedate, but no less satisfying, way to get around on two wheels in the shape of a tandem bicycle presented to the couple this week as wedding gift from London Mayor, Boris Johnson.

However, according to the Daily Mail, the mayor came under attack following his suggestion that the £500 bike be paid for by Transport for London (TfL).

Serco, the company that operates the Boris Bikes hire scheme stepped in and spared the mayor any further embarrassment by offering to pay for the bike, but Boris Johnson must take solace in the fact that that TfL is seeking taking seriously his insistence that that the transport chiefs reduce their costs; according to reports, 163 TfL officials were paid six-figure salaries in 2008/9, with over 2,500 of its staff earning over £50,000.
