Last week we heard from someone who was being asked by a well-known provider to pay £279 for insurance cover for two mobility scooters, not including breakdown cover. They were delighted to hear that we charge only £65 per year to cover a mobility scooter worth up to £3,500 – a price that includes theft, accidental damage, third party, breakdown recovery, lost or broken key replacement and £100 puncture cover.

£300m boost for active travel - and we're still playing catch-up

The government’s latest £300 million investment in walking, wheeling, and cycling might sound like progress, but when you look at the bigger picture, it’s clear we’re still stuck in the slow lane. In 2021/22, the UK spent £36.9 billion on transport. The lion’s share – £21.9 billion (59%) – went on rail, followed by £4.9 billion (13%) on local roads and £4.3 billion (12%) on national roads. That’s a spend of £388 per head on rail and £68 on national roads.
