The world's fastest (and most expensive) bicycle wheels
March 26, 2015
The Gokiso wheel set from Kondo Machine might outperform all others, but after shelling out £5,300 you would be entitled to nothing less.
So efficient are the wheels that they spin on a test rack for six minutes, compared to the 90 seconds typical of the average high quality hub. Kondo engineers, more used to fabricating parts for aircraft and luxury car makers, spent six months developing shock absorbing axles from carbon fibre and titanium.
Mountain descent heroes can rest assured that the wheels have been tested at speeds of up to 186 mph. To date, 30 cyclists have been impressed enough to buy a set.
