Tag or Tile? Choose how to track your bike
November 20, 2024
It's comforting to know the location of your bike at all times. The jury is still out on whether trackers offer a practicable solution to cycle theft, but there’s little doubt that Apple’s AirTag and Android’s Tile work well.
There's no doubt though on how well Apple’s AirTag and Android’s Tile work. The AirTag, with its integration into Apple’s vast “Find My” network, offers impressive coverage - particularly in urban areas. As long as there are iPhones nearby (and let’s face it, there usually are), an AirTag can discreetly ping its location back to you.
Tile, meanwhile, has a slightly longer Bluetooth range and can work across platforms, but without a network as extensive as Apple’s, you’re often limited to areas where other Tile users happen to pass by which can mean patchier coverage.
However accurate your tracker, it's worth remembering DIY recovery of a stolen bike is risky and the police advise against it. The hassle-free alternative is comprehensive cycle insurance, like that offered by us, which, alongside a host of benefits, spares you the stress of playing bike detective.
