UK's most ethical insurer? ETA tops the charts again
April 10, 2025

When you think of ethical brands, insurance might not spring to mind. But for two decades, The Good Shopping Guide has been digging beneath glossy adverts and slogans to rate insurance providers on how they treat people and the planet.
Following the release of updated scores for insurance brands, ETA has once again earned top marks in the guide’s annual ranking of 33 insurance providers, outdoing many household-names.
“There are some insurers who can be regarded as ‘ethical specialists’,” says The Good Shopping Guide. “The ETA aims to bring about positive changes in Britain’s travel habits by raising awareness about the impact of excessive car use.”
It’s a rare stance in a sector often accused of fuelling car dependency and ignoring the environmental costs of travel. ETA, by contrast, has always taken a strong position in favour of sustainable transport - while offering car breakdown and mobility scooter cover, but also bicycle insurance and even 24/7 recovery for cyclists - a service we pioneered in the UK.
So while it might be tempting to go with the cheapest premium or the flashiest marketing, it’s worth asking: How does your insurer compare?

The ethical choice
The ETA was established in 1990 as an ethical provider of green, reliable travel services. Over 30 years on, we continue to offer cycle insurance , breakdown cover and mobility scooter insurance while putting concern for the environment at the heart of all we do.
The Good Shopping Guide judges us to be the UK's most ethical provider.
