Good Shopping Guide names top 200 ethical businesses
January 16, 2024
We've been named one of the UK's most ethical businesses. The Good Shopping Guide certified our ethical policies and practices and added us to a list of 200 companies with a 'genuine dedication to making the world a better place'.
The Good Shopping Guide announced:
We are proud to endorse these truly ethical businesses as some of the most ethical companies and brands in the world – they are all testament to the power businesses can have to affect positive change.
We list companies and brands that have been independently certified through Ethical Accreditation by The Good Shopping Guide. This ensures that these ethical businesses are committed to regular checks on their ethical policies, practices, overall public record, as well as being routinely fact checked against multiple independent authorities. You can therefore see that these companies are not involved in the widespread corporate greenwashing that is so prevalent today.

The ethical choice
The ETA was established in 1990 as an ethical provider of green, reliable travel services. Over 30 years on, we continue to offer cycle insurance , breakdown cover and mobility scooter insurance while putting concern for the environment at the heart of all we do.
The Good Shopping Guide judges us to be the UK’s most ethical provider.
Ethical insurance
A key question for individuals is which shares insurers invest in. According to Friends of the Earth, ‘the fate of the global environment is in large part under [institutional investors’] control, and yours too – because it is your money and you are their client’. However, the Ethical Money partnership says that ‘no insurer has an “ethical investment” policy whereby they avoid investing in particular types of company’.
Campaigners have become increasingly impatient over unethical corporate activities and are learning how to put pressure on insurance companies as shareholders. One way to make this pressure work is to keep people aware of what their insurers are investing in. By working together, campaigners and individuals can push these companies to change their policies. The comparisons carried out by The Good Shopping guide, which cover sectors as diverse as energy and fashion are an excellent first port of call for consumers with a desire to shop ethically.
'Ethical specialists'
According to The Good Shopping Guide: “There are some insurers who can be regarded as ‘ethical specialists’....The ETA aims to bring about positive changes in Britain’s travel habits by raising awareness about the impact of excessive car use. It provides bicycle insurance as well as breakdown cover for cars and mobility scooters. See eta.co.uk for further details.”
