Blubel: Satnav for cyclists

Blubel is a new handlebar-mounted satnav for cyclists that navigates your every turn and learns from you and the cycling community to find the safest routes.
Cyclists have not developed a reliance on satnavs. Maybe we’re creatures of habit who usually stick to the same local routes. Maybe it’s because getting lost by bicycle is rarely the stress it is in a car; it’s an excuse to discover, explore and learn new routes. Most likely it’s because smart phone users have become satnav users by default.
Satnav for cyclists
Blubel will be of most benefit to cyclists who prefer to stay away from busy roads – the routes it suggests benefit from the collective wisdom of the local cycling community.
The user experience has been designed to be intuitive and tactile, with the electronic gubbins developed with the help of the European Space Agency and IBM. The high-tech device is housed in an upturned bicycle bell, which you can ring in the traditional way.
Blubel guides you to your destination, following the most cycle-friendly routes. LED lights give simple turn-by-turn directions as well as a compass bearing.
The app also allows you to track metrics such as calories burnt, distance travelled, speed and time. Blubel is avialble for pre-order from £40 via kickstarter.
Britain's most ethical insurance company 2016
On the face of it, one cycle insurance policy is much like another, but the devil is the detail. Many insurers refer to ‘new-for-old’ replacement, but if your bicycle is more than a few years old, devalue it severely. This means you are left out of pocket when you come to replace it. ETA cycle insurance replaces new-for-old whatever the age of your bike. It's just one of the things that makes us different.
We're proud that the way we do things has been acknowledged by The Good Shopping Guide; they have voted us Britain's most ethical insurance company 2016.
